Dr. Barry McNamara is a 1977 graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry at the Medical Center in Birmingham. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees from Manchester college in North Manchester, Indiana and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. McNamara served as a president of the Alabama Optometric Association from 1993 to 1994. In 1993 Dr. McNamara was appointed by Governor Jim Folsom to serve on the State Health Care Reform Task Force. The Alabama Optometric Association recognized him with an Outstanding Achievement Award in 1995. Dr. McNamara served on the Board of Directors for the Southern Educational Congress of Optometry from 1995 until 1998. The University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry Alumni Association awarded him the Alumnus of the Year award in 1994. His wife is Julie and they have two children, Kimberly and Kelli.
Dr. Crockett is originally a native of Henderson, Kentucky. He became interested in Optometry at the age of 8, when he received his first pair of glasses. He went on to graduate a valedictorian of his high school class in 1998. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee. It was there that he met his wife, Kim. In 2002, they moved to Alabama, where Dr. Crockett attended the University of Alabama School of Optometry. His Doctor of Optometry degree was awarded in 2008. In addition, he also received distinguished awards in clinical excellence, post-operative care and management, contact lens fitting, and pediatric vision therapy. Dr. Crockett and Kim are the proud parents of two boys and one girl, Gavin, Zane, and Edythe.
A native of Trussville, Alabama, Dr. Melanie Lawrence has had an interest in eye care since she received her first pair of glasses at the age of 4 and underwent eye muscle surgery at the age of 5. Dr. Lawrence completed her undergraduate education at Birmingham-Southern College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. She is an accomplished flutist and enjoys singing as well. Dr. Lawrence obtained her optometric education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. During this time she was privileged to work with excellent mentors and received specialized training in ocular disease, contact lenses, pediatrics, vision therapy and refractive and cataract surgery co-management. In addition, she was able to participate in many community service activities, including providing vision care for under-served communities and traveling to Honduras to provide eye examinations. Dr. Lawrence also completed two externships in private practice settings, including an externship with Eyecare Plus.In her free time, Dr. Lawrence enjoys listening to live music and performing. She also enjoys trapshooting. She is excited to “get back to her roots” here in Prattville. Her great-grandparents met while working in the historic cotton mill in 1907. Dr. Lawrence is a member of the Alabama Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She looks forward to caring for your eyes and providing you and your family with comprehensive vision care.
